First ISOP Winter School
Recently, the University of Stuttgart hosted ISOP inaugural Winter School (April 3rd – 5th 2024), highlighting a significant step forward by our doctoral candidates.
Our PhD students had the opportunity to take part in a wide range of engaging activities: a visit to the SCARLETT test facility (for experimental research using supercritical CO2), training sessions covering key topics such as thermocouple calibration, post-processing of measurement data, coating for corrosion protection (lecture by Dr Fátima Montemor of Instituto Superior Técnico), and design and manufacturing of heat exchangers (session by Dr Sarah-Tioual-Demange and Gaëtan Becker from Fives-Cryo). There was also an appealing visit to the additive manufacturing and material testing laboratory.

In addition to the enriching working sessions, the event offered valuable opportunities for networking and social interaction. Participants had the chance to engage in insightful discussions and forge connections with experienced PhD students through the ‘Mastering a PhD’ program.
The agenda included a delightful social dinner at Carls Brauhaus, where attendees enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere and local cuisine.
These networking activities and the social dinner complemented the discussions of the working sessions and contributed to the overall success of the event by nurturing a sense of community and collaboration among participants.
